Rezoning Approved Near Okemos Road Meijer

Rezoning Approved Near Okemos Road Meijer

OKEMOS - The Township Board voted to approve the rezoning of 4 acres behind the Okemos Road Meijer. The area was originally meant for Multiple Family Homes, but is being changed to Commercial Use. The rezoning is part of a bigger effort to redevelop the area, which is being called the Village of Okemos.

The Village would have a variety of amenities, in an effort to create a walkable area. Residents who live in the area would have direct walking access to entertainment, grocery shopping, and restaurants. The Village is a long ways away from reality, but offers an exciting future. The area would have wider sidewalks, with even a cobblestone walkway being proposed.

With the rezoning of this 4 acres out of the 28.5 total acre plot, we do know where the commercial aspect of the development will take place.
