ZBA Approves Variances to Build New Home

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Residents Colleen and David Krause met in front of the Meridian Township Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) on Wednesday, Aug. 12 to request two variances that would allow them to build a single-family home on their property off East Lake Drive in Haslett.

David Krause says that he and his wife have owned the property for the past 20 years, however, two of the Township's ordinances were preventing them from moving forward.

"This property does have sewer and water to it. We are, we have talked, as you can see in the letter with our only neighbor, which is the Broviac's, to the north of us, and they're very supportive of what we're doing here," said Krause.

The two ordinances stated that rear yards for lots directly next to Lake Lansing shall be measured from the ordinary high-water mark of Lake Lansing, and no more than one lot may be served by a single access route.

However, after careful consideration and discussion during the meeting, the ZBA unanimously approved both variances.
