Haslett Has It All

HASLETT - "This is something that we know, here in Meridian Township, that Haslett is an affordable, terrific place to live. But it's great that now the rest of the country knows this as well," said Meridian Township Treasurer Julie Brixie.

According to money.cnn.com, Haslett is ranked number 13 in America for having some of the most affordable homes and being one of the best places to live.

Meridian Township Associate Planner and Economic Developer Peter Menser said, "I think that the jewel of Haslett is Lake Lansing. I think that is what the area's really known for is having that lake for recreation. There are people that ice fish. It really has turned into a year-round destination."

Along with affordable homes on the lakefront itself and within walking distance from Lake Lansing, Treasurer Brixie believes families move to Haslett for its excellent schools.

"The drawing factor for Haslett residents, I believe, is their fantastic school system," said Brixie.

Clearly, Haslett has many jewels and on top of that, the community is surrounded by landmarks that make these jewels shine even brighter.

"We're located just minutes away from the Capitol and from Michigan State University and these are some of the things that make Haslett such a terrific place to live," Brixie added.

Even though Haslett has been nationally recognized as a great place to live, officials are still working to make the community even better.

Menser said, "The Township Board is prioritizing and focusing on the Haslett area. We have some vacancies at the major four corners there, so we are looking actively for tenants to fill those commercial spaces or possibly redevelop those spaces."

The Economic Development Corporation is offering $1,000 mini-grants to contribute towards a placemaking project to improve the quality of life and sense of place in Haslett.
