Friends of Historic Meridian's 50th Year Celebration

OKEMOS, MI - The Friends of Historic Meridian hosted a birthday party on Sunday, May 5, to commemorate 50 years since the organization was founded. FMH preserves and maintains the historic structures in the Meridian Historical Village, and offers a variety of community outreach and educational programs.

The event was open to the public and kicked off at the Village Chapel at 3:00 pm where various individuals presented history of Friends of Historic Meridian, as well as showcase snippets of Meridian Township history through the years. All the buildings were open for tours from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm including the general store. The store featured a variety of historical items for purchase along with a limited amount of merchandise featuring the for Friends of Historic Meridian new logo. Following the program, cake and punch was served to everyone.

Brad Brogen the FHM Board President thanked the Meridian Community for all their support and says, “With the township’s support, the parks department and the Meridian Garden Club keep the grounds up. It’s a community wide support we appreciate.”

It’s amazing to think that 50 years for our local non profit that operates the Meridian Historical Village. Many generations have been involved and we have a lot of gratitude to the founding members," said Holly Cordill, the FHM Executive Director. "The success of this non profit organization is the people banding together with a mission to share local history and an effort of many working together.”
