2021 National Night Out Event Scheduled for August 3

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, MI - Community members should mark their calendars for August 3, 2021 for the upcoming National Night Out event.

Neighborhoods all over the country take part in National Night Out every year, and Meridian Township has been participating for over 20 years. National Night Out promotes police-community relationships in order to build a safer and more caring environment.

This event allows neighborhoods across the community to put on their own block parties with special visitations from the Meridian Police and Fire Departments. Neighborhoods are encouraged to get outside with their neighbors and throw their own party with food, desserts, and games, and more.

Meridian Township has 96 different communities with neighborhood groups and around 80% participate in the event each year. The 2020 National Night Out in Meridian Township was cancelled due to Covid-19, and Lieutenant Crane of the Meridian Township Police Department believes this will promote an even better turnout than years past.

“Neighborhoods have changed, people have moved, new families have moved in, and it's an opportunity for everyone in the neighborhood to meet, get together and see how things have changed,” said Lieutenant Crane.

Everyone is welcome to participate in this event and can be confirmed by contacting your Neighborhood Leaders Association or community police officer, which can be found on the Meridian Township Police website.
