Possible Dog Fighting in Ingham County

Possible Dog Fighting in Ingham County

INGHAM COUNTY - The Ingham County Animal Control & Shelter rescued seven adult dogs and a litter of puppies from a suspected dog fighting home in Lansing earlier today.

This is not the first time there have been noise complaints and visits to this home according to Ingham County Animal Control Director, Heidi Williams. There have been multiple noise complaints on the block of 500 block of West Oakland in Lansing from neighbors concerned for the welfare of the animals.

Four animal control officers, two animal control supervisors along with Lansing Police officers executed a search warrant for dog fighting at this location and took the animals to safety. The suspected owners are said to have been compliant with the officers.

Williams said that the seven dogs and litter of puppies are safe and are healthy with no signs of injury.

“We take dog fighting here very seriously. Obviously, it is a felony, and we will pursue this with all the resources we have available to us. Personally, I think that dogs belong curled up on the couch with their owners so we be doing everything we can with this ongoing investigation.”

As the Animal Control staff takes care of the animals, The Ingham County Police Department will be continuing the investigation.
