Meridian Township Firefighters Surprise Kids and Families

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On Sunday, October 27th and Monday October 28th, the Meridian Township Fire Department visited many neighborhoods like Okemos Preserve, College Fields, Westminster and Knob Hill Apartments to deliver toys to kids who entered their name in a drawing at the Fire Prevention Open House on October 12th.

Lieutenant Ryan Campbell and Firefighter/Paramedic Sam Weber assisted with the deliveries which started at 9 am and lasted for about two hours. The Meridian Township Fire Department has organized this event for about 22 years.

"It kind of gives us a nice way to say thank you to the families for coming out and once again integrating ourselves in the Township to let them know who we are and to thank them for coming to our open house," said Firefighter/Paramedic Amanda Arnett.

"It's always exciting to see the kids when they see the fire trucks pulling up and it's there for them. Kids always love firemen and they always get excited when we got the lights going so it's just a good feeling," said Battalion Chief Ken Phinney.

The Meridian Township Fire Department really looks forward to kids learning some important fire safety tips from these events as part of Fire Prevention Month.

About eight prizes are given every year and a total of 176 prizes have been given out to the lucky winners in the past 22 years
