MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - This November will mark the first time in several years that there will be no election taking place in Meridian Township.

Meridian Township Clerk Brett Dreyfus sat down with HOMTV and explained the significance of not having an election this fall.

"We've had elections in Meridian Township since I became Clerk in 2012. We've had approximately 3 elections a year every single year and that's really unheard of. That's an extraordinary amount of elections, that means we're continually in election mode. It's good to have a break for a period of time so that we can regroup. We need some space and time to be able to do some of the improvements from election to election," Dreyfus said.

Although there is no election this year, there will be an election in 2020 and it's shaping up to be the biggest one yet, "Next year we're going to have a huge election year. 2020 is expected to be possibly the largest election in Michigan History. We're looking at turnouts rates next year that may exceed 80%," he said.

With next year being a big election, Meridian Township needs volunteers to come out and help with the elections. "One important component to the election process is that we need election inspectors-these are the people that work elections. People who do this get paid for a full days work, get paid for training, you get to meet community members and you're actually helping make democracy function," Dreyfus said.
