Meridian Garden Club Kicks-Off A New Season

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Gardening season is in full swing and the Meridian Township Garden Club hosted their annual plant sale on May 17 to kick it off.

Garden enthusiasts could attend the fundraiser at the Central Park Pavilion to purchase perennials, native plants, ferns and many more varieties of potted plants. There was also “garden goodies” up for grabs, jewelry to help save the honey bees and other utilities to help at home gardeners bring their garden to life.

The plant sale is the largest fundraiser the club hosts each year to help support the award-winning gardens across the Meridian Township area.

“We do five here and then we do one at the post office and the tulip garden,” said Co-Chair of the plant sale Paula Richardson. “We just received quite a few awards on the Plant it Pink Garden, which is supporting breast cancer survivors.”

The Garden Club is also working on funding some new projects that could be popping up around the area soon.

“We’ve helped design some small gardens for the new fire station at Central Park and Okemos Road and in front of our police department here in the township,” said Co-Chair of the plant sale Kathy Koryba.

Many of the club’s members were in attendance at the event to answer questions about gardening or how they could join the garden club.
