Residents Attend 3rd Annual Pancake Breakfast Supporting Local Scouts

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The third annual pancake breakfast was hosted by Meridian Township Professional Firefighters Local 1600 and local Scout Troops on March 9 at 242 Community Church.

At least 240 people showed up this year, and for a $5 donation, guests were served all you can eat pancakes and sausage, prepared by the fire department. Proceeds go towards the Local Scout Units Campership/Scholarship fund, which helps give scouts the opportunity to attend summer camp.

Proceeds are also going towards the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Besides a great breakfast, kids were able to check out a fire truck that the fire department had brought with them as well as an EMS vehicle.

A pinewood derby racetrack was also available for the kids who wanted to take part in some racing.

"A lot of our packs are doing our derbies next week and the week after, so the scouts are testing out the track and trying out some cars," Scout Leader Steve Oberg said. "The derby has been a long time family tradition."

Oberg added that he was glad that the breakfast is getting the wide appeal that it's getting and is looking forward to next year.
