MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Planning Commission approved two permits for Stockwell Development at their January 23rd meeting.
A wetland use permit was approved by the Commission for 1560 Grand River Avenue where Stockwell Development plans to build a structure with a drive-thru window.
A special use permit was also approved for Stockwell to build a structure with one drive-thru window instead of two at 1560 Grand River Avenue.
The special use permit for two drive-thru windows was discussed at the January 9th meeting.
Commissioners expressed concern over two drive-thru windows because of heavy traffic and making the area less walkable.
Commissioner Brett DeGroff did not support the approval of a permit for any drive-thru windows citing concerns about walkability.
"If we want areas to be walkable then I think that we have to make decisions now that will allow for walkable growth into the future," DeGroff said.
Since the original request was two drive-thu windows the developer can appeal the decision of the Planning Commission to the Township Board or submit another request for a special use permit requesting another drive-thru window.
The businesses that will occupy this proposed development has not yet been determined.
