Skiing and Snowshoeing Offered at the Harris Nature Center

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - With the winter season still ahead, you might find yourself looking for activities to do in the snow.

If you're looking for a place to go skiing or snowshoeing, look no further than the Harris Nature Center in Meridian Township, and if you don't have equipment, don't fret.

The Harris Nature Center is renting out snow shoes and cross country skis to those who are interested in skiing. Equipment is available to people of all ages, and the nature center has an on-sight trail to ski along as well as other trails located in the surrounding area.

Skis and shoes are available to be checked out for one-hour blocks, or can be checked out for a 24-hour period for those who like to ski after hours.

Kit Rich, a Senior Park Naturalist at Harris Nature Center, explains the process for renting out equipment.

"People come in during regular building hours, so usually from 9 to 4:30, it gives us a little bit of time to put them all away at the end of the day, and they fill out a little bit of a form for us so we have some contact information, and we size them up with the appropriate ski size," Rich said.

Rentals cost $5 per hour, or $15 for a 24-hour period Monday through Friday. The cost to rent on Saturday and Sunday is $7 per hour, or $20 for a 24-hour period.

For more information, contact the Harris Nature Center at 517.349.3866.
