Okemos High School Theatre Presents: An Ideal Husband
OKEMOS HIGH SCHOOL - Okemos High School Theatre will be performing the Oscar Wilde classic An Ideal Husband next week.
The play revolves around blackmail and political corruption, and touches on the themes of public and private honor. The action is set in London and takes place over the course of twenty-four hours.
"I play a character, and her name is Mrs. Cheveley. And, she's kind of the villain in the show. She finds some scandals on another character and she uses them as blackmail." said Tesnim Smith, an actress in the play, when asked about the character she portrays.
When asked her favorite scene in the play, Tesnim said, "My evilest one, in which I'm blackmailing Sir Robert and trying to get him to agree to my terms."
"My character’s name is Sir Robert Chiltern. He's a politician: he's the Secretary of Foreign Affairs for the House of Commons, but in the past, he had to do some pretty shady things to get where he is now. He thought that he had gotten rid of that past but, now, this Mrs. Cheveley comes into his life and she threatens to reveal his shady past." said Max Fleming, an actor in the play, when asked about the character he portrays.
Portraying the time period is one the reasons that drew Fleming to be a part of the play, "Theater is really, probably, one of my favorite things in the world. It's just a great chance for people to see a snapshot of the world at a certain time or place, and it gives us an opportunity to live in the moment as well."
The play is directed by Chad Swan-Badgero and shows November 15th through 18th at 7:00 pm and on the 19th at 2:30 pm.
