East Lansing Advances, Haslett Falls Short

EAST LANSING - The second round of the MHSAA High School Football playoffs could have gone either way. Head Coach Charlie Otlewski, reminisced on the last time Haslett took on East Lansing in a playoff game, the Trojans won on a last minute field goal.

The story tonight was no different.

East Lansing would have the first score of the game late in the first quarter. After a forced fumble by the Vikings they could not convert on downs deep enough into Trojan territory they would settle for a field goal, and go into halftime trailing East Lansing 7-3.

"It's a process we take things one at a time," said East Lansing Head Coach, Bill Feraco.

"When the finger points at you, you have to be ready."

The third quarter would remain scoreless, and both teams put up a defensive battle. Jamar Mills of East Lansing would make a critical play with 1:28 left and the Trojans would pull away, winning this one 14-3.

Defensively a strong performance by the East Lansing Trojans and the Vikings just could not find a way to score.

"I think just watching the growth. You can see those questions on their faces we talk about if you want to see before you believe you're gonna miss things, we wanted to slow things down and have them absorb all of this. This is what it's about if you're lucky enough to get here," said Feraco.

East Lansing will advance and now hold the title of the Division 3 District Champions. The Trojans will take on Battle Creek next Friday.
