Okemos' Athlete Balances The Captain
Role On Two Teams

OKEMOS - Sydney Fountain is a junior at Okemos High School and she takes on not one, but two team captain positions for Okemos volleyball and Okemos water polo. Both her coaches said that as an athlete, Sydney stays focus and keeps her cool, when most athletes at her age can get caught up in emotions when playing.

"I tend to turn to humor," said Fountain, "when we're down and I notice some of my teams getting down on themselves I try to crack and inside joke or something that will lighten up the moods of all of us, including myself."

Head Okemos volleyball coach Jamie Ianni has nothing but confidence in Sydney, that she will step up and play a very big leader role for the team next season, as a senior. Plus, the girl's water polo head coach, Matthew Latham says that both sports can go hand in hand and that Sydney does a great job balancing her training for both.

"She knows where to be in the water and she's also very vocal in the water, good leader on and off the court," said Latham.

Throughout the winter Fountain will be focusing on water polo training, and after the season in the spring it's back to volleyball training before summer camps start up.
