Michigan State Survives Against Purdue

EAST LANSING - Over to East Lansing as the Michigan State Spartans hosted the Purdue Boilermakers in MSU's first conference match-up. MSU being ranked #2 in the AP Polls was favored by 24 points to win this game.

MSU kicked it into gear during the first half with two touchdowns from LJ Scott and one 23 yard pass to RJ Shelton. They were up 21 to nothing at half.

Purdue turns it on in the second half as Gregory Phillips scores for the Boilermakers making it 21 to 7. And another touchdown for Purdue as Markell Jones runs it 62 yards into the endzone. East Lansing starts to quiet down as the kicker, Michael Gieger makes the 30 yard field goal making it 24 to 14.

Markell Jones scores again for Purdue, but MSU defense holds them off as they secure the Homecoming win 24 to 21.

"I'm all about a team that finishes, that's when you see the character of a football team, if they can come together and finish in the 4th, they did and the sideline energy was even positive which is what I want to see," said MSU head coach, Mark Dantonio.
