LANSING - New rules are officially in place for the 2015-2016 sports season.

Many of these deal with player safety, as concern grows over contact sports and its lasting damage to a young players mind and body.

These rule changes included re-defining 'the unnecessary roughness penalty, and setting a new concussion protocol.

The group also restricted practices in extreme heat, and mandated regular water breaks

MHSAA Communications Director John Johnson agreed that no matter what high schoolers play, it'll never truly be safe.

"School sports aren't playing in bubble wrap. And i think that parents need to get out of their head. If you're going to play a sport, even if it's badminton. It's going to have some risk," said Johnson.
