Planning Commission Approves Light
Business and More

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Monday's Planning Commission meeting lasted just over an hour but wasn't short on approval.

The highlight of the night was the approval of a light manufacturing business on 1870 Grand River Avenue. The applicant plans to use the business to malt barley and sell to fermented beverage brewers.

Planning Commissioner Dante Ianii said the light business plans to open later in the year.

The other hot topic from the meeting was a rezoning request for 1.4 acres of land. The applicant wanted to split the property east-west as opposed to north-south split.

"If you do it east-west it's going to make a one parcel a land lot and the Township doesn't like parcels to be land lots because it's harder to sell and makes future developments more difficult," said Ianii.

Ianii also said the applicant has to jump a few more hurdles before any advances on the rezoning can begin.
The next meeting will take place on August 3rd at 7:00pm
