Fill the Boot for Muscular Dystrophy

UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Fire Department "Fill the Boot" events raised more than $10,000 for MDA.

ORIGINAL STORY: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township firefighters filled the streets in Downtown Okemos this past weekend looking to raise money for muscular dystrophy. The Meridian Fire Department has been participating in the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) "Fill the Boot" campaign for more than 10 years.

The firefighters were located at the corner of Hamilton and Okemos Roads Friday through Sunday from 11am to 3pm. The goal this year is to raise $20,000. Last year about $18,000 was raised and the MDA is supporting Meridian Firefighters to strive for more.

"People are giving change and honestly 20's, they're very generous around here," said John McDermott, a Meridian Firefighter and Paramedic.

Along with Fill the Boot, the firefighters will partner with area Fire Department's in a golf outing on Friday July 31st to continue to raise money for the MDA.
