Workers Celebrate Safety on the Job

EAST LANSING - On Wednesday June 24th, construction workers building the new Facility for Rare Isotope Beams on Michigan State University's campus were encouraged to continue safe practices on the job during the Health and Safety Day event.

The event was a group effort put forth by the Michigan LECET, LiUNA Local 499, Barton Malow, Christman Constructors, Michigan State University, and East Lansing elected officials.

"It's just a way for us to give back to the community, and to the owners, and our contractors," said Dan Minton, the Secretary/Treasurer for Labors Local 499.

The event provided the contractors with a free t-shirt, a free Honeybaked lunch, and free health screenings including blood pressure and blood sugar tests.

Additionally, Local 499 members were entered into a raffle to win a new Weber smoker.
