Changes Are Coming to the Park Lake
Roundabout

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Nearly three years after the roundabout on Park Lake Road and Burcham Drive was constructed the community wants to make it look aesthetically pleasing to locals and visitors of Meridian Township.

Meridian resident Ethel Anthony was all but pleased with the roundabout's looks.

“If I have people come to visit me I always took them down Park Lake because it was pretty and they would get into our area. Now, I mean, it’s horrible. It just doesn’t look nice. It’s an eye sore. It’s a complete eyesore," said Anthony.

According to Meridian Township Recycling and Energy Coordinator, LeRoy Harvey, the project will cost $10,000 and is depending on donations and community support. They are accepting donations via gofundme.com and have made nearly $1,500.

“Budgets are limited in government this a project where ideally if we can get neighborhoods involved with maintaining it, that’s a good thing," said Harvey.

The Park Lake Roundabout Project is receiving help from MSU's horticulture department in regards to what plants can make the roundabout more eco-friendly.

“Primarily what we’re trying to do here is provide plants that can ornamental and beautiful to look at and at the same time functioning in terms of remediation to some of the pollution," said Arthur Cameron, Director of MSU Horticulture Gardens.

Harvey expects the project to be completed by the end of the summer or beginning of fall as long as enough donations are raised.
