Best In The State

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Every year the U.S. News & World Report ranks various schools across the country. According to their website, this year they've reviewed 29,070 U.S. public high schools and 245 Michigan schools made their ranking.

In Michigan's high school ranking's alone, Okemos High School was ranked number 10 in the state.

U.S. News list the criteria in which they base their ranking on as:
1.Student to teacher ratio
2.College readiness
3.Math
4.Reading

They also mention in order for a school to be eligible for a state ranking a school must be awarded a national gold or silver medal.

Dr. Catherine Ash, Superintendent of Okemos Public Schools said she appreciates the raking but, "for me it's not about the rankings, I mean it really does depend on you know what are they looking at, what do they put into the ranking. For me it's are we meeting the needs of our students and does our community believe we're doing everything that we can for their child."

Ash also went on to say no one thing can be attributed to their success, it's a combine effort from the students, staff, parents and the community.
