Detours in Store for Traffic on Okemos
Road as New Pedestrian Bridge is Put
in
Place

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The new pedestrian bridge in Meridian Township over the Red Cedar River on Okemos Road is ready to be installed.

Although many may be excited for this new addition, they may not be happy to hear that detours will be in store for traffic on Okemos Road between May 29-May 31 in order to get the bridge into place.

Proposed detour from Meridian Township:
-Close northbound Okemos Road from Mt. Hope Road to Clinton Street
-Maintain southbound Okemos Road.
-Southbound traffic will be diverted into the northbound lanes over the Camelback Bridge to the southbound lanes through the southern cross-over, and then back to the southbound lanes at the intersection of Mt. Hope Road and Okemos Road.
-Northbound Okemos Road traffic will be forced to turn left at Mt. Hope Road, travel westbound to Hagadorn
Road, travel northbound to Grand River Avenue, and then travel eastbound on Grand River Avenue to Okemos
Road.

Following the installation of the bridge, concrete will be poured. Two weeks after the concrete is poured, the pathway will be open to residents to use.
