Meridian Township to Move Forward in Sale of Old Central Fire Station Propety

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Township Board voted to go forward in the sale of the old Central Fire Station and The MARC property, located at 2150 Clinton St, at the March 17th meeting.

David Ledebuhr from Musselman Reality in East Lansing will be acting as the commercial agent throughout the process.

Meridian Township Manager Frank Walsh said he believes the sale of the property will allow for potential growth in downtown Okemos, although the exact value has yet to be determined.

“The most important thing is what's the development going to be and bringing some new energy and vibrancy to downtown Okemos,” Walsh said. “That's what's really more important than the asking price: what can we do to spur development in downtown Okemos?”

Walsh said a mixed-use development could be a strong suitor for the former Central Fire Station location.

“There is some real potential for this property,” Walsh said. “It is really close to Grand River Avenue. It is in downtown Okemos. And I think if you take a look at the traffic count, we have several thousand cars go through there everyday, so I think it's an ideal location."
