Evaluation of the 2004 Greenspace
Plan was presented to the
Environmental Commission

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Township Associate Planner Rick Brown gave a presentation about Green Space planning during the latest Environmental Commission meeting.

The presentation focused on changes to the Green Space plan around Meridian Township such as adding trail crossings and wildlife crossings over the years.

“We’ve had a couple of successes," Brown said. "Hannah Boulevard over the Hannah box drain. Its a box but its a very large box. A deer or other significant animal could get through there. And over the Red Cedar River we had some success in that as well. On the other side we have had some failures."

One of the failures Brown mentioned was the fence over the Red Cedar River on Dobie Road. He said there is enough space above the water for some animals to make it under the fence but Brown pointed out that not all animals are strong enough to walk through the river.

Another concern Brown had was that since it was just a plan it had loose regulations has been applied inconsistently since it was implemented in 2004.
