New Fire Station in Meridian Township Up for Re-Bidding

New Fire Station in Meridian
Township Up for Re-Bidding

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The process of building a new fire station in Meridian Township has run into another set-back.

Once the bidding process was underway to construct the new station, there had to be recalculations of what was reasonable. That's because seven bids were submitted all over budget between $3.9 million and $4.5 million.

Because of the over-budgeted bids, Township Board members and staff are now planning ways to reduce the size of the planned fire station.

"The square footage of the building right now is around 15,000 square feet...so we're going to try to get the building down to around 10 to 11,000 square feet," said Township Manager Frank Walsh.

Manager Walsh hopes for more "competitive' bidding during the next round this fall. All future plans will be put in front of the Township Board for approval.

The groundbreaking event scheduled for July 22nd will be postponed.
