Alleged Suspect Arrested After Long Stand-Off With Meridian Township Police and Bomb Sqaud

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - A lengthy stand-off between a barricaded man and the Meridian Township Police Dept. ended peacefully yesterday afternoon with no shots and no explosions.

An alleged suspect in a bomb threat and armed robbery case fled from Lansing's Mid-Michigan Physicians building to his home after demanding prescription drugs.

That robbery happened around 12:30 p.m.

The man was then surrounded outside of his condo at Nemoke Trails in Haslett by police, SWAT and SRT teams for about three hours, until he surrendered around 4:40 p.m.

"He finally decided to give up and he was cooperative throughout all conversation," said Lieutenant Greg Frenger.

Several Nemoke Trail residents had to leave their homes during the incident, but are thankful that nobody was hurt.

"I'm relieved that it happened without incident, apparently he surrendered at his own free will, which is good," said Omar Karim, a local resident of Nemoke Trails.

Residents have since been escorted back into their homes, while the suspect remains in custody for further questioning.

Police cleared the Mid-Michigan Physicians building at 1540 Lake Lansing Road without finding a bomb.
