Resistance Continues Against New
Fire Station in Meridian Township

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - After two lawsuits brought against Meridian Township over the placement of a new fire station, but plans to break ground moves forward.

According to Township Manager Frank Walsh the Township will be taking bids starting on June 13th with the groundbreaking of the fire station happening in July.

The construction of a new fire station was before votes back in November 2012. The millage was passed. The biggest issue continues to be where it will be placed...right across from Autumn Park Condominiums.

Autumn Park Resident, Bill Persons said, "For it to be placed in an area where it was not designated as a place for a fire station, I think would deceive a lot of people. We're fighting it because it lowers our property values and it's disturbing to us in the middle of the night."

Bill Persons wife Marie Persons said, "I would just like to remind people that we were not properly notified of this."

Meridian Township plans to begin clearing the site as early as this week. The new fire station is expected to be open in May 2015.
