MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The 50 Plus Fitness program is held by the Parks and Recreation Department of Meridian Township since 2011. And this program has been held in Lansing area for 20 years already.

Members in this program are from age 60 to 99 years old, and they come to the food court at Meridian Mall every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30am to 9:30am.

Georgranne Withey, the Liaison of the program said this program is designed so people only have to do the certain exercises they can. Meanwhile, they will do singing, counting, and snack time after the exercise. Because she thinks the socialization is also important for seniors' health too.

Their are about 30 people who come work out each time, and Withey also said she always tells them safety is the most important thing for them, especially during the winter season.

" People don't believe that I am 90 years old already," said Mike Pere, a member of the program who is 90 years old, and has been participating for 3 months.

He also said he has problems with his shoulders and hips because of arthritis. He has found these exercises are actually limbering him up. He said he feels much better with them and thinks it's the best thing he has done in a long time.

William Ludwihe, a 84 years old member in this fitness program, said the exercise helps his leg a lot and also think it is a excellent program.

Withey also said if you are interested in joining the 50 plus fitness program, feel free to come and the only thing you need to do is fill out the contact information for emergency.
