MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - New businesses are bringing in a breathe of fresh air for Meridian Township.

Within the past year, several new businesses have been added to the Township roster and there may be even more businesses on the way.

"Well in 2013, things have really been up and we are really excited to see a lot of new businesses in the Township," said Meridian Township Associate Planner Peter Menser.

In December 2013, the Township Board approved a request by the Meridian Mall to expand. An addition of 19,000 square feet will be added to accommodate new stores such as H&M.

In 2013, 877 building permits have been submitted which is more than an 18% increase from 2012.

"The market is really doing well in Meridian Township, we are seeing new businesses and existing businesses expand," said Menser.

The new additions are the result of a new economic development project in Meridian Township. A staff member was assigned to focus directly on the business community...overseeing new developments and ushering in a new era of business that has spread throughout the Township.

"It's a welcomed changes and its something people are happy about," said Menser. "This is the prime time for people who are planning spring, summer and fall projects to come in and start the process."
