New Fire Station Appeal Goes Back to
the Planning Commission

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Residents from Autumn Park Condominiums appealed the Planning Commission's decision to pass the Special Use Permit for the proposed location of the new Meridian Township fire station at the corner of Okemos Road and Central Park drive. Residents are concerned about noise and decreasing property values.

Meridian Township EMS/Fire Chief, Fred Cowper said that there shouldn't be an issue with noise, because unless there is traffic, sirens do not have to be on.

Voters approved a $3.5 million millage to build the new fire station in November 2012.

At the October 15th Township Board meeting the Board voted 6 to 1 to send the issue back to the Planning Commission.

Its possible the Planning Commission will make a decision at their next meeting on Monday, October 21st.
