Whole Foods Coming To Meridian

EAST LANSING - Whole foods Market will be heading to Meridian Township after a 3500 square foot property was requested to be redeveloped as a commercial planned unit development.

“There is a reuse, possibly they want to in this case with whole foods, there is an existing building on this site currently v peddler. Have that they purchase the site there plan is to tear the building down, and reuse the site,” said Mark Kieselbach, Director of Community Planning and Development in Meridian Township.

The location of the new whole foods stores currently has properties on them, that will be demolished. The bike store on Grand River will be moved down the street.

According to the Whole Foods website, they are known as the world’s leader in natural and organic foods. Construction will begin in the next couple of months.

“The next would be site plan reviews. site plans are subject to the director of community planning development's approval,” said Kieselbach. “They will go through site plan approval. that's where we're going to tie down the exact set backs and the amount of parking based on what the board has approved.”

Whole foods is planned to be completed in 2015, and will be the 7th store in Michigan.

The Planning Commission will hold a Public Hearing on Monday, October 21st for the Commercial Planned Unit Development for Whole Foods.
