MEA Common Core Standards

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - September is quickly approaching, and school curriculum may be looking more streamlined state, and nationwide.

Michigan decided to adopt the common core state standards initiative in 2012, but only fully implemented the system for the 2012-2013 school year.

MSU College of Education student Lauren Gaboury noted, "Theoretically most of the kids in the state would get the same education and the same level of skills for every subject, but some of the implementing disadvantages is that the kids are being taught to the test and teachers don't have as much freedom in the classroom."

The program’s aim is to make educational goals nation wide consistent and clear. This design is meant to prepare students in the U.S. fully for higher education and be relevant to the real world.
