Okemos Football Holds Summer Camp

OKEMOS - With football just around the corner, Okemos High School held their Summer camp to prepare for the upcoming season.

"We're just trying to get some basic fundamentals and techniques," Football Coach Jack Wallace said. "Our foundation to our offense and defense is kind of setting the ground work so when we get ready on August 12th, that we have some of the basics in."

Okemos is looking to improve off of last season's 2-7 record. Coach Wallace knows off-season work such are where the improvement begins.

"Well I think it's crucial, once again, to instill our program, offensively, defensively, our attitude, once again, what we're trying to accomplish and get done this year," Wallace said. "Our kids have done a great job since last January in the weight room, in the off-season. We've gotten bigger faster, stronger already, and now we're just working on the schemes, and how we can get better at blocking and running and all those types of things."

In addition to high school students that will represent Okemos this fall, camps were also available to 4th-8th graders in the Okemos school system

"I love having them out here," Wallace said. "It's just a joy being out here. Those kids are so full of energy and excitement. They want to do good, they want to work hard, they have great attitudes. They're funny, they're silly, but it's Okemos football that we're trying to establish, and we want to establish a program that will be here for a long time."
