Military Kids

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - With the school year not too far away, one group is making life a little bit easier for students with parents in the military.

Operation Homefront, a military non-profit, held an event at Tony Sacco's Coal Oven Pizza last week where volunteers could help stuff backpacks with school supplies for kids with parents who are currently serving in the military.

Operation Homefront Executive Director Sarah Davis said all of the school supply items, including the backpacks, were donated. She also added that Tony Sacco's actually came to them with the goal of giving back to military families.

"The volunteering and local companies are what make or break us," Davis said. "So by having Tony Sacco's on board to provide the volunteers to stuff the backpacks, and then the proceeds tonight will make a huge difference for local military families."

In addition to the backpack event, 20% of sales Tony Sacco's received that night were donated to local military families.
