Senior Prom

Senior Prom

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Who says you only get one senior prom? The Ingham Country Triad hosted their 8th annual Senior Prom on Friday, July 26th at the East Lansing Marriot. The night had all the makings of a prom. There was a live band, dinner, dancing and attendees dressed in their formal attire. The idea for the prom was conceived 8 years a go when a board from the TRIAD was trying to come up with a way to raise funds for the senior community.

"There are ages from 20's all the way to 90's attending this event. But its really neat to see the seniors come out," said Ingham County TRIAD chair Sgt. Tracey Ruiz. "There were some that could not afford this event, that the sponsors have been able to sponsor to get out for the evening. This may be the only night out for them in years."

The evening was hosted by EMCEE Tim Baron. The night began with dinner served by Marriot waiters and waitresses and music from the band Twilight Memories as professional ball room dancers twirled around the dance floor. But as dinner wound down the band started heating up and so did the dance floor. In no time the floor was covered by people up and dancing to the music. Some stole dances from local police officers while others helped the band sing. Still others were just there to socialize and catch up with old friends.

"We have a regular table that we have every year," said dance attendee Joe Bartha.

Everything at the event was donated including the food, musical entertainment and even the ballroom. Although the event was called Senior Prom it was attended by people of all ages, and 100% of the profits went back to the community.
