MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Through the help of the Michigan Economic Development Cooperation, the Mobile Cuisine Start-up Program is looking to strengthen the food truck industry throughout the state of Michigan!

Community Planning and Development Director Mark Kieselbach says he thinks the move is a good idea for the local area.

"I think it would be popular here," Kieselbach said. "The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is probably leading some of that new growth in business opportunities."

Kieselbach says that while the food truck industry isn't exactly new, it's become very trendy.

"It's caught on, it's becoming very popular in other areas," Kieselbach said. "It's probably one of things to some people have thought about 'well, maybe we can do it.'"

The Mobile Cuisine Startup Program will be providing grants of up to $100,000 to both new food-truck industries, and pre-exisiting ones.

Applicants will need to meet various requirements, such as a proven business plan, registration to do business in the state of Michigan, and proof that their business will be operational by late July of 2014.

Applications for these grants are due on Monday, July 1 at 3:00 p.m.
