College Drop Outs

UPDATE: EAST LANSING - College dropouts can cause a financial bind to higher education institutions around the country and it's something that's happening more and more in classrooms of higher education institutions. Students enroll for classes but don't show up on the first day. This leaves michigan colleges to pay up to millions of dollars when students with federal grants drop out and pocket federal aid. Students who do this can cause a hike in tuition prices when colleges are forced to pay back the federal government. Students do this without thinking about the consequences this may cause on the institution or on future students.

Students who drop out are required to pay back federal-aid funds like the pell grant. But when they don't, the responsibility falls on the college. Administration at local colleges were unavailable for comment, but the Detroit Free Press reported that roughly 1000 Oakland Community College students got checks this past Fall but failed to show up for classes. This is about $700,000 of federal aid lost. In east lansing for homtv, aidan clark
