Township Firefighter Prepares for
'Climb'

UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - After the first ten flights, he was feeling pretty confident still. But it was some time around floor 30 that the pain started to set in.

But that pain isn't stopping Jeremy Hagerman from doing it all over again.

The Meridian Township firefighter will be taking part in his second 'Climb Detroit' event this March. The event is part of a larger campaign called 'Fight for Air' organized by the American Lung Association.

Hagerman said he trains year-round to keep up with the demands of his job.

"Certainly this one event will help us prepare mentally for what we could face but it's the day to day training that really keeps our bodies in shape," Hagerman said.

"Our job is very dynamic, things are always changing and we don't know what to expect, so always being ready to take on whatever challenge happens."

It's that need to be ready for whatever challenge comes his way that drove Hagerman to do the 'Climb Detroit' event again.

"One of the things I think about with this particular event, Climb Detroit, for me thinking about that this isn't something we're regularly prepared to do certainly adds another dynamic to my training and my focus throughout the year," he said.
