School Fun Runs

School Fun Runs

UPDATE: EAST LANSING - This wasn't an ordinary afternoon for the students at Red Cedar Elementary.

After lunch, instead of heading back to the classroom, students were taken outside where they were met with a track.

After a quick warm up, every grade ran around the track for 30 minutes where every step was measured by a pedometer.

A student at Red Cedar Elementary said, "We all were running around and I just stopped right before it was over and looked and saw that I had over 2,000 steps on mine."

While this fun run is promoting an active and healthy lifestyle, it is also raising money for the school.

Liesel Carlson, PTO President at Red Cedar Elementary said, "We've always looked for fundraising that could involve a lot of people."

Students were encouraged to ask family and friends for pledges to support them in the run.

Cathy Mahler, a parent at Red Cedar Elementary said, "I've got two kids here at Red Cedar and it's just a fun way to raise money for the school."

This fundraiser is raising money for recess bags and teacher grants.

"These are things that may not get funded if we didn't do a fundraiser like this," said Carlson.

Red Cedar's overall goal is to raise $8,000 dollars and by the day of the run they had already raised $7,500.

"We are within $500 dollars at this point and we are right in the middle of the fun run so it is exciting", said Carlson.

The afternoon ended with a popsicle and class picture with the cheetah mascot, Movin Max.

Red Cedar is accepting pledges for the next week and the student who brings in the most gets to be principal for the day.
