Fire Station Replacement Proposal on Ballot

Fire Station Replacement
Proposal on Ballot

UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - With the closing of the Central Fire Station on the corner of Clinton and Okemos road now imminent, the focus is turning to building a new replacement station. A plot of land already owned by the township on the corner of Central Park and Okemos road is being proposed as the prime location.

"The current Central Fire Station needs a considerable amount of work and that's what lead to the decision by the board to put that on the ballot," said Gerry Richards, Meridian Township Manager. "Basically we've been holding off for awhile knowing that we would need to do something... "

The proposal is asking voters to approve a bond for $3.5 million to fund the project. Approval of the bond would also mean a millage increase for residents that would be equal to about $20 per year for the average $100,000 homeowner. The bond would last for the next 15 years.

ORIGINAL STORY: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - After much debate, discussion and deliberation, come this November voters in Meridian Township will get their say in deciding what the future holds for the replacement of the Central Fire Station.
