Grilling Safety

Grilling Safety

UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - In the summertime, some may think of hotdogs and hamburgers for a barbecue. But may forget basic safety precautions before grilling up these foods.

When firing up a propane grill, always make sure to turn it on before you start cooking and let it run for ten to 15 minutes. This will burn off the grease, which is flammable.

To cool down charcoal, don't throw water on the grill, this will create smoke. Instead, allow the charcoal to burn out. And keeping up on basic maintenance with your grill is key.

"If theres one thing, anybody thats gonna be grilling in Meridian township is: you gotta clean that thing. Just make sure theres not a lot grease buildup, cuz thats the most important thing you can do, " said Joe Ross manage of Public Relations of the Michigan Propane Gas Association.

The Michigan Propane Gas Association also suggests to consider buying a new grill after five years, or have a professional take a look at it.
