Rescued from Puppy Mill

Rescued from Puppy Mill

UPDATE: INGHAM COUNTY - Several hundred dogs were rescued from a puppy mill in Allegan County on the western side of the state in April. Some of those dogs were brought to the Ingham County Animal Shelter where they were nurtured back to health and adopted to new families.

The director of the Animal Shelter says these dogs were raised in deplorable conditions. "They had feces in their food. The kennels had a strong ammonia smell from their urine. It was horrible."

It was a 65 year old couple that ran the puppy mill, and both of them are facing several felony animal neglect charges. The ICAS director believes that prison time could be their punishment.

Most of the dogs brought to the Ingham County Animal Shelter were already adopted, but a few more are still looking for new homes.
