The Lugnuts Beat the Spartans in the
6th Annual Crosstown Showdown

UPDATE: LANSING,MI - Before a record breaking crowd of almost 3,000 people the Michigan State baseball team looked to tie the 6 game series at 3 with the Lansing Lugnuts.

After a scoreless 6 innings, both teams had only recorded one hit until the bottom of the 7th. Outfielder Markus Brisker hit a center-single past Spartan pitcher Ryan Martin that brought Chris Schaeffer and Bryson Namba home.

Still in the bottom of the 7th, a triple RBI by Kenny Wilson put the Lugnuts ahead as Brisker and Jorge Vega-Rosado pass home plate to put the Lugs ahead 4-0.

Jon Berti hit a pop-fly to center, and two more Lugs run it home. Pierce Rankin got the 7th hit, a grounder that brought Berti home and extended the Lugnuts' lead 7-0.

The Lugs defeated the Spartans 7-0 and Michigan State Coach Jake Boss said it was a good learning experience for his Spartans.

"We've got a lot of young guys, and so with that being said we tried to bring as many guys a long as quickly as possible and get them indoctrinated into college baseball," said Boss. "This is another opportunity for us to play a lot of freshman and play against a lot of talented players, and hopefully that helps their development."

The Lugnuts lead the all time series at 4-2.
