Youth Recreation Fundraiser

Youth Recreation Fundraiser

UPDATE: EAST LANSING - Buddies Pub & Grill on Lake Lansing Road held a fundraiser on Sunday, February 26th from noon-8pm where a percentage of everyones bill went to the Snell Towar Recreation Center.

Maria Garcia, a Buddies employee said, "It's just important for us to give back to the community because we are in the neighborhood. We've been here for 14 years and these kids are eventually going to come back with their kids."

The recreation center is placed in the center of the neighborhood so kids have a place to keep busy and stay close to home in the summer months.

The center features computers, a nintendo game system, and an air hockey table. However, they have had some obstacles due to lack of funding.

Greg Grothous, Recreation Specialist for Meridian Township said, "Three years ago funding was cut from the Township's general fund for the program. So, we have been able to run the program for the last two years off of donations and fundraising. It's a greatly reduced program from what it's been because we have just operated strictly off donations, but it's been nonetheless a very successful program."

The kids are excited about the summer and said they are most looking forward to making new friends.
