Okemos and Haslett Ranked Among Best High Schools in Michigan
OKEMOS, MI - The U.S. News and World Report have ranked four Michigan high schools in the nation’s top 100 best schools in the country.
Two of those high schools are located in Meridian Township with Okemos High School ranked 9 and Haslett High School ranked 52 within the state of Michigan in this year's Best High Schools Rankings. In the national rankings, Okemos High School ranks at #438 and Haslett High School ranks at #1,629.
There is a criteria for rankings and that is based on college readiness, along with proficiency in reading and math, performance in both categories, as well as the college curriculum and graduation rates.
HOMTV was able to speak with the Superintendent of Okemos Public Schools, John Hood, about the recognition of Okemos High School being ranked high at the state and national level, “That makes me very proud of our school system. It’s not something I own as superintendent, there’s a lot of hands in achieving that honor. First our students who are hard working and dedicated doing their best and pushing themselves hard academically.”
“Our over vigorous staff, who has high expectations for students even broader than that, we have parents in our community that support education from pre-K years all the way through 12th grade and beyond. Our board of education continues to hold high expectations for exceptional programming for our students. Our pre-K staff are working with kids to make sure they have the solid foundation they need academically and socially, and to succeed by the time they get to high school. I’m proud of all those pieces and they are all important parts of the puzzle that resulted in this recognition. ”
Steven Cook, the Haslett Superintendent wasn’t available to speak with HOMTV at this time and Superintendent Hood took the time to recognize Haslett High School for being ranked high and says “In Meridian Township to have to public school systems ranked so highly, I think speaks values about Meridian Township as well. I’m very proud of the Okemos relationship has with the Haslett Schools. We’re not in competition with each other and we look to support each other to remove barriers, be good public services to each other to advance public ed and want to extend our congratulations to the Haslett public schools as well.”
Congratulations to the outstanding school districts in our prime community!
