MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Haslett Public Schools and Meridian Township are interested in pursuing a foreclosed property adjacent to Ralya Elementary School for future public use.
The property was foreclosed upon by the Foreclosing Governmental Unit for unpaid property taxes in Meridian Township.
The Township may acquire the property for public use by paying the taxes owed. However, Haslett Public Schools and Meridian Township are interested in obtaining the property without expending public funds.
The total amount due on the parcel comes to $9,070, but there is a process that may reduce the listed price that is being looked into.
Meridian Township Treasurer, Julie Brixie said, “Haslett Public Schools believes that there is a future public use and purpose for that land. Its proximity to the school, the potential need for expansion of the parking lot or other facilities in the area make it a really desirable piece of the land for the school to acquire.”
The Meridian Township Board discussed the topic at their meeting on Tuesday, June 21.
They passed the motion for Ingham County Treasurer, Eric Schertzing, to work with the Township and Haslett Public Schools to ultimately obtain the land for public purpose.
