MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - In an effort to focus on development along the Grand River Corridor, the Meridian Township
Economic Development Corporation is
discussing the creation of a
Corridor Improvement Authority (CIA).

The CIA is an economic tool created
by the State of Michigan to assist communities with coordinating and
funding improvements in commercial corridors.

It was created to unify the look and function of the corridor for residents businesses along Grand River Avenue which is the main arterial that cuts through Meridian Township.

Associate Planner, Peter Menser states, "There has been a big focus in Meridian Township that started a couple of years ago for a Corridor Improvement Authority because it runs from the Capital, to Downtown Lansing, up Michigan Avenue through Grand River down through East Lansing and through Webberville. There has been a big focus on what the Corridor is going to look like since it's the main Corridor in the region."

The Township Board did not discuss the CIA at the November 3rd meeting.

The next step in the process for the Board is to adopt a resolution declaring intent to establish a CIA.

The resolution must include a public hearing date on the adoption of a CIA.
