MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Now that summer is nearly here it is important to remember the rules and ordinances regarding BBQ pits.
It is never permissible to burn garbage, leafs, brush, grass clippings, and building materials. The key is to make sure the fire stays contained. To do this you can do a ring pit, which are commercially available, or a landscaped pit which is built with brick.
"If you wanna go very simple, we tell people that you can just dig out an area no greater than three feet in diameter, no deeper than one foot down, and line it with bricks or even rocks. And that is considered acceptable," said Tavis Millerov Fire Inspector for the Meridian Township Fire Department.
