MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Planning Commission will hold a public hearing Monday, October 14th at 7:00 p.m. to discuss the Meridian Mall commercial planned unit development, also known as C-PUD.
The Planning Commission will hear anyone interested in establishing this development. An extra 18,650 square feet will be added to the mall.
This is the first C-PUD the Planning Commission has reviewed and the purpose of the development is to encourage flexibility for the redevelopment of existing sites.
Meridian Township Principal Planner, Gail Oranchak said, "With the improvement in the economy, we're seeing more interest in these types of flexible zoning ordinance sections. The entire Meridian Mall site will be covered by this commercial planned unit development. They are going to add some amenities around the building including covered bicycle parking, a landscaped area and a place to sit, and those will be the amenities for the new project."
The potential businesses that will fill Meridian Mall's additional space has not been determined, but Planet Fitness is still scheduled to come to an existing area of the mall within the next year. The gym is currently under site plan review.
